Environmental flow systems

The performance of research for the determination of ecological flow systems in rivers is experiencing a progressive demand due to the need to comply with environmental regulations, the purpose of which being to mitigate the adverse effects which, both large and small hydroelectric centres cause in these aquatic ecosystems.

he work needed for the establishment of ecological flow systems in rivers, consists first, on one hand, of a hydraulic flow model showing how the flow relates to the hydromorpholgy of it (velocity, depth, type of substrate…), and on the other, on a biological indicator which directly influence the flow variation: the species of fish.

Environmental flow systems

To obtain the necessary field data, and for the execution of the hydraulic flow model, Cimera has the material means, as well as a team of specialists in topographic sampling, gauging and grading, whether it will be from a rubber dinghy or on foot, depending on if we find ourselves in wadeable or non-wadeable areas.

Biological sampling is made through the electronic fishing technique, by personnel who are highly experienced and qualified for this.

The set of data taken in the field can be delivered raw, or otherwise may be processed and edited in office, thanks to personnel who are highly specialized in flow modeling programmes, with subsequent interpretation of the ecological flow system.
