Bioprospecting in extreme aquatic environments
Bioprospecting consists of the study of natural, little explored environments, or those with extreme physicochemical conditions, the main purpose of which is to discover organisms and/or substances that can potentially be used for human benefit, with certain commercial value in industrial, nutritional, cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors.
Nowadays, there is a continuous need to search for aquatic environments which potentially present new sources of chemical compounds, genes, proteins, microorganisms and other products of current or potential economic value.
Bioprospecting in extreme aquatic environments
The scientific and innovative character of Cimera, as well as its constant capacity for updating, together with the experience accumulated in control networks throughout its trajectory, makes it possible to offer a complete service of design, operation and control networks for bio prospecting in different extreme aquatic environments:
Sampling in isolated, little explored or difficult
Access areas: From Cimera we ensure the availability of a team of people specialised in bio prospections, as well as the material means necessary for access and correct sampling in aquatic environments which have little exploration or none at all, are isolated or with difficult access, as for example, in the case of high mountain ecosystems.
Bioprospecting in extreme aquatic environments
Sampling in environments with physical and/or chemical extremes: There are aquatic environments considered “extreme”, because they present rare chemical and/or physical conditions or features or in ratings outside the usual. Cimera has a specialized team for taking samples in these environments that can host extremophiles, generally micro organisms which usually present unique adaptations in their habitats, and which can be correlated in some cases with the synthesis of unusual natural products.
